The study is due for completion in November 2005.

The UK Government recognises the benefits of a plan-led approach and is in favour of implementing marine spatial planning, if practicable.  There are a number of drivers for the development of marine spatial planning in the UK, in particular, Government commitments made at OSPAR, the World Summit on Sustainable Development and the likely requirements of the EU Marine Thematic Strategy/ Marine Framework Directive
