Summary

During the past decades, the concept of ICZM has been popularised by international agencies and has inspired many theoretical and empirical research. This report presents the main findings of a two year (1998-1999) European collaborative research funded under the “Environment and Climate‿ programme of the European Community 4th Research Programme. The COASTMAN programme has been initiated by a multidisciplinary group of Norvegian, French and Greek social scientists and financially supported by DG Research of the European Commission.
