Summary
Background to the conference The coast and seas are busy places, and managing these areas in a sustainable manner must take into account some very complex issues and a multiplicity of requirements. With 250 government agencies and local UK coastal authorities with responsibility in the coastal zone, as well as numerous commercial, recreational and conservation organisations, it is inevitable that conflicts of interest can arise.
Aims of the conference: · to explore how new technology from Europe and around the world is enabling new uses for the marine environment and how its impacts are managed. · to consider opportunities for offshore development · to consider how such development can benefit the coastal regions economically and socially · to examine how development can be integrated into long term strategies for coastal management · to examine how problems have been solved or mitigated.
This conference will promote new ideas and new understanding between the relevant industries, policy makers, planners and environmental groups
