Overall objectives 1. To develop a coherent and realistic plan for the estuary’s flood defences that is: • compatible with natural estuary processes; • compatible with adjacent developments, including preferred options for adjoining lengths of frontage; and Strategy objectives Key issues 2. To ensure that all proposals are: • compatible with natural estuary processes; • technically feasible; • economically viable; • environmentally appropriate; and • socially acceptable. • sustainable, taking into account future changes in the environment (human, built or natural), in sea levels or in the climate.
