Summary

In 2001 CSMA Consultants Limited and its partners won a DTI tender to investigate using abandoned coastal mineshafts in Cornwall as Oscillating Water Column (OWC) devices. Wave energy is currently experiencing a renaissance, with a number of new designs being developed and tested. Some of these are based on the OWC concept, which uses wave action to force air through a self-rectifying turbine and hence generate electricity. The OWC concept has been developed in both near shore and offshore environments.
