Summary

On 2 August 2004 the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry announced a new ‘Marine Renewables Deployment Fund’ worth £50 million. The fund will support the continued development of the marine renewables sector in the UK and help realise the potential for marine renewables recognised by the Renewables Innovation Review. In January 2005, following consultation with the Renewables Advisory Board Finance and Investment Working Group, we published our proposals for the allocation of the new fund. At the core of those proposals is a ‘Wave and Tidal Stream Energy Demonstration Scheme’ (the Scheme) taking up to £42 million of the total fund and on which stakeholders were invited to comment.
