Summary

The UK Government established the Review of Marine Nature Conservation in 1999 to carry out a fundamental review of the options for improving protection for marine sites and species.

The outcome of this Review was the Working Group Report presented to Government in July 2004. The report contained 16 key recommendations and a larger number of other proposals.

Safeguarding Sea Life sets out the response of the UK Government and devolved administrations to the Report in the context of our wider policies for the marine environment.
